A signing ceremony of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Mauritius Cane Industry Authority (MCIA) and the Mauritius Cooperative Agricultural Federation Ltd for the purchase of a harvester, took place at MCIA headquarters, in Reduit, this Monday June 22. This was attended by Minister of Agro-Industry and Food Security, Maneesh Gobin and Minister of Industrial Development, Sunil Bholah.
The agreement was signed between MCIA CEO Satish Purmessur and MCAF General Manager Dinesh Goburdhun. The purchase of the harvester, at a cost of Rs 15 million, will be funded at 51% by the state and the balance (49%) will have to be reimbursed by the MCAF over a period of 7 years.
“This harvester project is an example of how we will have to harvest. The use of equipment is necessary in agriculture, ”said Maneesh Gobin in his remarks. He made it clear that this harvester project is the result of a proposal by Prime Minister Pravind Jugnauth. “Under the watchful eye of the Prime Minister, we have translated this idea into reality. He is aware of it, ”insisted Maneesh Gobin.
